Innovative Interview with Elevance Health

June 27, 20245 min read

Innovative Financial Group's (IFG) Director of Brokerage Sales, Nick Tatge, welcomes Elevance Health's National Broker Sales Director, Tim Glover, into the recording studio to discuss his journey in the insurance industry and how Elevance has grown with IFG.

Nick shares that he and Tim have a mutual passion for cooking, which leads to Tim's introduction to the insurance industry and the details of his journey. Starting as a high school teacher for ten years, Tim shares that his jobs have always led to the next job. Now, he is grateful to be where he is today.

Calling it his "First Quarter" and "Second Quarter," Tim describes how his friend introduced him to the pharmaceutical industry—that quarter ended for Tim while he had a sales position with Pfizer flagship brands.

Tim's "Third Quarter" was a Sales Training position at Anthem BlueCross BlueShield. His combined teaching and sales experience made him the perfect candidate for his position at Anthem. Tim tells us that he has been with Elevance (previously Anthem) for 11 years, and for the first five, he held that sales training position.

Living in Roanoke, Virginia, Tim wanted to get into the sales side of his career. So, when a Regional Sales Manager position became available six years ago, he took it. From there, he became the East Director, and now his current title is National Broker Sales Director.

Tim shares that he is partial to Elevance Health: "I love what we do, what we are about, and the team I'm on." Tim calls it his "second family," which makes him not dread work on Mondays. That feeling expands to all the brokerage partners and friends he has made over the years.

As for his "Fourth Quarter," Tim hopes it is where he is today and is looking forward to the new opportunities his current position will bring, focusing on positively impacting IFG, business agent partners, and members.

Nick asks, "What do things about your organization and work resonate with you?"

"I don't get caught up in the competition. There are excellent companies in the market and enough business for everyone. On this side, it's our job to find the right company to meet the needs of each client; IFG does that as well as anybody else out there," says Tim.

He explains what he likes most about Elevance: "When we think about the member, we are very member-focused; we want them to have a good experience and benefits that make meaningful differences in their lives."

Tim tells us, "Our mission is to advance healthcare for everyone. For everyone that is part of our organizations, about 1 in 3 Americans interact with our company in one way or another."

Advancing humanity is the internal goal of providing people with what they need. Patients, members, and clients are on the right plan for them. Tim finds it very fortunate that Elevance gets to change the lives of so many people. Tim emphasizes that for the agencies Elevance partners with, "You grow, we are growing with you."

Essential Extras and Flex Cards exemplify what Elevance has added to its base plan. The real question is, "How can people live better lives on our plans?" He explains how more companies are considering covering food, OTC, and utilities for their members.

Tim tells us that collaboration with the competition is essential, too. We see a new benefit in a plan and think, "How can we leverage that?" to create a plan that can fulfill more significant needs. "Striving to be that partner in healthcare that members want. So, at the end of the day, they are truly winning when they pick a plan, agency, and agent that they can work with that is going to be impartial, show them all the options, and put them on a plan that is best for them."

Nick adds, "Being a small part of that positive impact is very important." Then asks, "As a National Director, working with a lot of different partners, vendors, internal mechanics, and carrier levels, what is the thing about your job that you enjoy the most?"

"From working on the streets with agents in my first sales training position, my role has changed so much compared to where I am now, working with Agency leaders like you and staff here at Innovative Financial Group and other agencies; it is not too far removed from the collaboration."

Elevance works locally to open opportunities for training and partnerships with their contracted agents. Tim explains how that resonates; even the small impacts can help people live healthier lives by helping and supporting the agents that can get the right products to the clients. The same goes for the agencies, helping them grow.

"What is your favorite part about working with Innovative Financial Group?" Nick asks.

"It's hard to pick one thing, but just the growth and humility about who you serve and what the purpose is here is unrivaled," Tim still remembers where he was when first introduced to IFG. "To this day, when we look at the growth in both IFG and my career, I will never forget the impact that Innovative Financial Group had on my territory, later my region, and now being able to work with and manage our relationship nationally, we have grown together. Elevance Health is better working with Innovative Financial Group, and Tim Glover is better working with Innovative Financial Group. So, when I say it's a partnership, that means a lot to me, and I mean that personally."

Nick confirms that Elevance continues to help IFG grow, too. He appreciates this partnership to the full extent and looks forward to the future.

He then ends the conversation by asking, "What opportunities are out there with Elevance for the upcoming lock-in period?"

Tim's answer includes details of the significant growth opportunities in California, Texas, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Georgia, with the largest being Florida.

Tim also wants IFG agents to know they can partner with Elevance for seminars to enrich their relationships with Elevance Regional Sales Managers. He will help facilitate these opportunities and invites you to contact him directly (Glover, Timothy tim.glover@elevancehealth.com).
